11/26/18 - 12/7/18

November 26th, 2018 - December 7th, 2018

Good morning, parents! Here are some updates on upcoming assignments in English Language Arts. We apologize that we have not emailed you in a few weeks, but we hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break. We only have about three and a half weeks left of fall semester, so we will be kicking it into gear as we come to a close.

Updates apply for all class periods:
The students have been working with the stories "The Old Woman Who Lived with Wolves" or "Zlateh the Goat" for a few weeks. The students have written constructed responses, practiced using the plot diagram, completed vocabulary graphic organizers, written summaries, completed Venn Diagrams, and more. Therefore, they are very acclimated with these stories. We will have a quiz over these stories tomorrow, November 27th. The students will practice today using Quizizz, which will greatly prepare them.

We would recommend that the students also play the Quizizz at home if they are able to.
Go to join.quizizz.com and type in the code.

The codes are as listed:
Zlateh the Goat- 671763
The Old Woman Who Lived with Wolves- 358498

The remainder of the week, as well as next week, the students will work on writing an expository essay. They will have many days to complete this. They will be given a choice board, which allows them to choose their writing prompts. The students will also be given a graphic organizer and a checklist to help them accurately and efficiently write their essays.

Feel free to email us if you have any further questions or concerns.
Thank you, and have a wonderful week!

Updates apply for all class periods:  This week, the students will be taking the county-mandated Write Score Assessment. This could potentially last until Thursday, 12/13.  On  Friday, December 14th, we will have the Unit Two Benchmark test. Last week, we held review stations with the students, and gave them a study guide as well. Once Write Score is over, we will play review games, such as a team buzzer game and Quizizz. Students can also access the Quizizz at home, so please encourage your students to play the review game multiple times at home!  The code is listed below:  Unit 2 Benchmark Quizizz Code-  914049 Next week, the students will be finalizing their expository essays, and turn them in for a test grade. We gave the students multiple days in class last week to work on their rough drafts, so i

February 4th, 2019 - February 14th, 2019 Good morning, parents! Here are some updates on  assignments in English Language Arts! We apologize for the delay in information. January was a great month full of learning about figurative language and narrative writing. The students are finally back into the swing of things and doing really well at the start of second semester! Updates apply for all class periods:  This week, the students are continuing to work with figurative language. We have discussed similes, hyperboles, alliteration, metaphors, personification, oxymorons, and onomatopoeia (acronym: SHAMPOO!) It is important for the students to be able to identify figurative language as it is used in literature, as well as in real life (songs, advertisements, etc.). We are also having the students revise their own written work to include more descriptive language, sensory language, dialogue, and figurative language.  Friday, February 8th , the students have a selection s
