12/10/18 - 12/20/18

December 10th, 2018 - December 20th, 2018

Good morning, parents! Here are some updates on the final assignments in English Language Arts for first semester.

Updates apply for all class periods:
This week, the students will be taking the county-mandated Write Score Assessment. This could potentially last until Thursday, 12/13.

On Friday, December 14th, we will have the Unit Two Benchmark test. Last week, we held review stations with the students, and gave them a study guide as well. Once Write Score is over, we will play review games, such as a team buzzer game and Quizizz. Students can also access the Quizizz at home, so please encourage your students to play the review game multiple times at home!

The code is listed below:
Unit 2 Benchmark Quizizz Code- 914049

Next week, the students will be finalizing their expository essays, and turn them in for a test grade. We gave the students multiple days in class last week to work on their rough drafts, so if they worked efficiently in class, then they should only have to type their final copies. The final copy of their essays are due Tuesday, December 18th. We will also play fun review games for the remainder of the week, and help students who have missing assignments get those turned in.

Please encourage your students to work hard these next 9 days, and be diligent about turning all assignments in. Only two more weeks to pull grades up!

For Second Period Only:
If your child is in our second period class, we would like to congratulate them for winning the "links in the chain" behavior reward! As a class period, the students' behavior exceeded our expectations and they received the most links in the chain for positive behavior throughout the semester. As a result, we will have a potluck party to celebrate that is planned for Wednesday, December 19th. Ms. Johnson and I will contribute food and drinks, but the students will also sign up to bring foods to share. If you are allowing your child to bring a dish to share, please be mindful of allergies and avoid foods containing peanuts. We are so proud of second period for their outstanding behavior! :)

Feel free to email us if you have any further questions or concerns. We hope that you have a wonderful end of the semester, as well as a blessed holiday break!

Also, good luck to our Milton Eagles at state on Wednesday!

Thank you,

Cassidy Culberson and Chelsey Johnson

February 4th, 2019 - February 14th, 2019 Good morning, parents! Here are some updates on  assignments in English Language Arts! We apologize for the delay in information. January was a great month full of learning about figurative language and narrative writing. The students are finally back into the swing of things and doing really well at the start of second semester! Updates apply for all class periods:  This week, the students are continuing to work with figurative language. We have discussed similes, hyperboles, alliteration, metaphors, personification, oxymorons, and onomatopoeia (acronym: SHAMPOO!) It is important for the students to be able to identify figurative language as it is used in literature, as well as in real life (songs, advertisements, etc.). We are also having the students revise their own written work to include more descriptive language, sensory language, dialogue, and figurative language.  Friday, February 8th , the students have a selection s
