Good morning, all! We hope you had a wonderful weekend. We are beginning week four with your students and we have enjoyed getting to know them. We are looking forward to a wonderful year. Approximately every other week, we will post brief updates on this blog website. Please remember that we move at the pace that is best for our students, so plans are subject to change. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact one of us at either culbersoncj@fultonschools.org or johnsoncd@fultonschools.org.

Ms. Culberson and Ms. Johnson (1st, 2nd, and 5th periods):
Last week, the students either read the story "The Stray" or "The Homecoming" with their groups. We learned about how to answer constructed responses using the RACE (restate, answer, cite evidence, explain) strategy.  The students will continue to answer comprehension questions and critical thinking questions using the RACE strategy. The students will also practice answering questions about the stories through Quizizz. On Thursday, August 30th, the students will have a common assessment on the story that they read. A common assessment is a short assessment taken across the grade level. This is not to be confused with a test. Although it is a grade, it measures whether or not the students have mastered the standards presented to them.

Next week, we will continue to practice citing textual evidence and working on determining the plot of a story. We will keep you informed if we decide to have a quiz next week.

Reminder: There is no school for students on Friday, August 31st or Monday, September 3rd. Enjoy your long weekend!

February 4th, 2019 - February 14th, 2019 Good morning, parents! Here are some updates on  assignments in English Language Arts! We apologize for the delay in information. January was a great month full of learning about figurative language and narrative writing. The students are finally back into the swing of things and doing really well at the start of second semester! Updates apply for all class periods:  This week, the students are continuing to work with figurative language. We have discussed similes, hyperboles, alliteration, metaphors, personification, oxymorons, and onomatopoeia (acronym: SHAMPOO!) It is important for the students to be able to identify figurative language as it is used in literature, as well as in real life (songs, advertisements, etc.). We are also having the students revise their own written work to include more descriptive language, sensory language, dialogue, and figurative language.  Friday, February 8th , the students have a selection s

Updates apply for all class periods:  This week, the students will be taking the county-mandated Write Score Assessment. This could potentially last until Thursday, 12/13.  On  Friday, December 14th, we will have the Unit Two Benchmark test. Last week, we held review stations with the students, and gave them a study guide as well. Once Write Score is over, we will play review games, such as a team buzzer game and Quizizz. Students can also access the Quizizz at home, so please encourage your students to play the review game multiple times at home!  The code is listed below:  Unit 2 Benchmark Quizizz Code-  914049 Next week, the students will be finalizing their expository essays, and turn them in for a test grade. We gave the students multiple days in class last week to work on their rough drafts, so i
