Good morning!

We hope you had a wonderful weekend and Digital Learning Day on Friday. Here is our update for the next two weeks.

Dr. Foote' and Ms. Culberson (1st, 5th, 6th Periods):
We are aware that Mastery Connect did not work for some of the students on Friday's Digital Learning Day. We will allow the students to make this up during class.

We will continue to work on text structures. The students will practice identifying text structures through the use of Quizizz and task cards.

The students will continue practicing their constructed responses using the RACE strategy (Restate the prompt, Answer the question, Cite evidence, Explain). They will also be learning how to answer informative/explanatory prompts. It is important that the students continue learning how to properly "break down" the prompt, so that they can write a response that accurately answers the prompt. This is especially important on the upcoming Georgia Milestones. We have been doing "Drop Everything and Write" days every Thursday. We will continue to do this for the next couple of weeks, focusing on narrative writing as well.

Lastly, the students will learn informational text vocabulary and prepare for their upcoming common assessment. The common assessment will be held on Wednesday, March 21st.

Updates apply for all class periods:  This week, the students will be taking the county-mandated Write Score Assessment. This could potentially last until Thursday, 12/13.  On  Friday, December 14th, we will have the Unit Two Benchmark test. Last week, we held review stations with the students, and gave them a study guide as well. Once Write Score is over, we will play review games, such as a team buzzer game and Quizizz. Students can also access the Quizizz at home, so please encourage your students to play the review game multiple times at home!  The code is listed below:  Unit 2 Benchmark Quizizz Code-  914049 Next week, the students will be finalizing their expository essays, and turn them in for a test grade. We gave the students multiple days in class last week to work on their rough drafts, so i

February 4th, 2019 - February 14th, 2019 Good morning, parents! Here are some updates on  assignments in English Language Arts! We apologize for the delay in information. January was a great month full of learning about figurative language and narrative writing. The students are finally back into the swing of things and doing really well at the start of second semester! Updates apply for all class periods:  This week, the students are continuing to work with figurative language. We have discussed similes, hyperboles, alliteration, metaphors, personification, oxymorons, and onomatopoeia (acronym: SHAMPOO!) It is important for the students to be able to identify figurative language as it is used in literature, as well as in real life (songs, advertisements, etc.). We are also having the students revise their own written work to include more descriptive language, sensory language, dialogue, and figurative language.  Friday, February 8th , the students have a selection s
