Good morning!

We hope you had a wonderful weekend. Here is our update for the next two weeks.

Dr. Foote' and Ms. Culberson (1st, 5th, 6th Periods):
The students took their test on Thursday of last week for the poetry unit. On Friday, the students started their Write Score testing. They took this test at the beginning of the year, and they are taking it again to see how much they have grown. They will continue to take this test through tomorrow (Tuesday). Once the students have finished Write Score, they are spending time on iReady.

On Wednesday, we are introducing this semester's book talk assignment. It is a choice board that allows the students to choose 3 assignments to complete after reading their book of choice. They will have the rest of February to complete this task.

On Thursday, we will do a narrative writing workshop. The students will practice their narrative writing to prepare for the Georgia Milestones in April. They will either have to write their own beginning or ending to a story.

On Friday and through next week, the students will be reading a short narrative called, "Drawing Horses". They will learn vocabulary words, annotate the story, and write constructed responses next week about the story. We plan on having a common assessment on "Drawing Horses" on Thursday, February 15th. On Friday the 16th, we will have the students write another narrative response for practice.

School News:
Just a reminder that your student is supposed to be completing at least 45 minutes of iReady every week! Also, we are choosing clubs this week and club days start back Thursday, February 15th.
Students are to report to school as normal on Friday, February 9th, as well as Friday, February 16th! These were originally teacher work days, but they are now make-up days for students!

Sincerely,

Cassidy Culberson and Dr. Darold Foote'

This could potentially last until Thursday, 12/13.  On  Friday, December 14th, we will have the Unit Two Benchmark test. Last week, we held review stations with the students, and gave them a study guide as well. Once Write Score is over, we will play review games, such as a team buzzer game and Quizizz. Students can also access the Quizizz at home, so please encourage your students to play the review game multiple times at home!  The code is listed below:  Unit 2 Benchmark Quizizz Code-  914049 Next week, the students will be finalizing their expository essays, and turn them in for a test grade. We gave the students multiple days in class last week to work on their rough drafts, so i

February 4th, 2019 - February 14th, 2019 Good morning, parents! Here are some updates on  assignments in English Language Arts! We apologize for the delay in information. January was a great month full of learning about figurative language and narrative writing. The students are finally back into the swing of things and doing really well at the start of second semester! Updates apply for all class periods:  This week, the students are continuing to work with figurative language. We have discussed similes, hyperboles, alliteration, metaphors, personification, oxymorons, and onomatopoeia (acronym: SHAMPOO!) It is important for the students to be able to identify figurative language as it is used in literature, as well as in real life (songs, advertisements, etc.). We are also having the students revise their own written work to include more descriptive language, sensory language, dialogue, and figurative language.  Friday, February 8th , the students have a selection s
