Good morning, all!
We hope everyone had a wonderful three-day weekend and got a chance to play in the snow. We only have 8 more school days until winter break, so we wanted to keep you updated on what to expect in English Language Arts.
Dr. Foote' and Ms. Culberson (1st, 5th, 6th Periods):
This week, we are working on having our students complete their narrative essays. We worked on these essays all week last week as well. We began with a graphic organizer to help the students lay out their thoughts and ideas before writing. Our goal is to have the students write and complete their essays by Friday. These essays are a test grade, so please encourage your student to work hard on them!
Next week, we will be teaching the students how to properly write a letter. For practice, the students will be writing holiday letters to some marines over seas and we will mail the letters out once they are complete. Our first period class was able to FaceTime one of these marines one day and ask him questions about his job. It was really rewarding to see them get so excited to talk to him and learn about his profession. We are looking forward to this assignment because the students will be able to write a letter to someone they have met and made connections with.
Ms. Culberson (3rd & 4th Periods):
This week, the students will be working on planning and drafting their writing. The writing task will vary from student to student based on what they need more practice on. The students will either be working on constructed responses, arguments, or narratives. These writing tasks will be graded as a test grade, so please encourage your student to work hard!

School News: Elkins Pointe Middle School is holding a "Winter Break Challenge" encouraging the students to spend 440 minutes on iReady over the break. If the students accomplish this goal, they will be inserted in a drawing for some awesome prizes! Please encourage your student to participate in this challenge. Not only does it help sharpen their reading skills, but they could also win some really cool prizes.
Dr. Foote' and I want to thank you for such a wonderful semester. We have had so much fun teaching your students. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns. We hope you have a wonderful winter break!
Sincerely,
Cassidy Culberson and Dr. Foote'
